Wayther Trucking weather

Plan the haul around the weather.

A loaded trailer is the most weather-exposed thing on the road, and a long haul is the one journey where a two-hour delay at the start becomes a missed window at the other end. Wayther forecasts every point of your route for the hour you reach it: the high-wind stretches on the open plains, the snow on the pass, the visibility at four in the afternoon. Then it moves the departure until the whole run is clean, or shows you the route that goes around the storm.

What a trucker reads

The four conditions that stop a truck

A route weather app earns its place by naming the conditions that close a road, not by listing everything the sky is doing. Wayther keeps those four at the top of the summary, with the miles they affect, so the run can be planned around them before the load is on.

  • Wind speed, direction and gusts at every point, with the exposed stretches identified
  • Extreme low temperatures flagged, which is what puts ice on a pass
  • Heavy precipitation and poor visibility, timed to your arrival rather than to the hour
  • Alternative routes side by side, each with its own travel time, distance and forecast

Where it goes wrong

Three ways a haul is delayed by weather

A closed pass, a bridge you slow down for, a visibility advisory on the plains. All three are decided by weather at a particular hour on a particular stretch, which is the one thing a forecast for your departure city cannot tell you.

Wind on the open stretch

Gusts across open country and gaps in a mountain range are where a high trailer earns its reputation for difficulty. Direction is what decides it: a crosswind on the flank of the load is a different problem from a gust from behind. Wayther shows both, at every point of the route, so the miles that need a slower hand are specific and plannable.

Snow on the pass you did not expect

A mountain pass can be in snow at six in the morning and clear by noon while the valley stays cold all day, so the forecast for the town at the bottom tells you nothing useful about the summit. Wayther times the forecast to your arrival, which is how you find out that leaving four hours earlier gets you over before it closes.

The delay you could have routed around

Sometimes the timing cannot move, and the storm sits on the direct route. Wayther lists the main alternatives side by side, each with its own travel time, distance and full forecast, so a detour that costs twenty minutes can be compared against a delay that costs three hours before you commit to either.

Planning a haul

Move the departure, or take the other road

Set the origin, the destination and the departure time, and the forecast is calculated for the hour you will be at each point rather than for the hour you happen to be looking at it. That single change is what makes the rest possible: move the departure and the wind, the snow and the visibility all shift along the route, and you can watch a system clear your miles before it arrives.

When the delivery window is what it is, the alternatives are the lever. Wayther shows the main options for the trip side by side, each with its own travel time, distance and forecast, so the route that goes around the weather is a number you can weigh rather than a gamble. Planning reaches ten days ahead, which covers a long haul booked weeks in advance.

Tell the app you are driving a truck and it plans the route the way that mode should be driven.

Trucking weather FAQ

Questions truckers ask

What does a trucker actually need from a weather app?

A forecast for the hour you reach each point of the route rather than for the town you left from, and specifically the four things that close a road or a bridge: high wind and gusts, heavy snow, ice-level temperatures, and poor visibility. Wayther shows wind speed, direction and gusts along the whole route, flags extreme low temperatures, and recalculates everything when you move the departure time, so a delay can be designed out before the load is on.

Why does wind direction matter for a loaded trailer?

A crosswind pushes on the side of a high trailer, while a tailwind from behind pushes the rear end and can unbalance the axle. Direction is therefore more useful than speed alone, and Wayther shows both along with gusts at every point of the route. The exposed ground that makes it a problem is uneven: open plains, bridges over water, gaps in a mountain range.

Can Wayther help me avoid a weather delay on a long haul?

Yes. Set the route and the departure time, and the forecast is recalculated for the hour you will actually be at each point, which is often enough to find a window that misses the worst of it. When the timing is fixed by a delivery window, Wayther lists the main alternative routes side by side, each with its own travel time, distance and forecast, so the route that goes around the storm rather than through it is visible before you commit. It plans up to 10 days ahead, which covers a long haul booked weeks in advance.

Does Wayther show road closures or live traffic?

No, and it is worth being clear about that. Wayther forecasts weather, and it is not a navigation system: it does not replace a maps app for turn-by-turn directions, and it does not report closures or congestion. Always follow official weather warnings and road closures from the relevant authority, which are the record of what is actually closed.

Can I plan a haul more than a week ahead?

Wayther plans up to 10 days ahead, so a load booked a fortnight out is not too early to look at. How much the forecast can be trusted is a separate question: at ten days out it is a general expectation about which way the weather runs, and by the last two days it is close to exact. Worth knowing before a routing decision is made against it.

Other ways to travel

Same route forecast, different vehicle

The weather along the route is the same whichever way you travel it. What changes is which of it you have to respect.

RV and trailer weather

Gusts on bridges and exposed ridges, icy passes, and the overnight temperature where you stop.

Motorcycle weather

Wind direction, rain timed to the mile, and the temperature where the climbs start.
